Harrison County And A Book
(A One Book Community Project)
Marshall, Texas and the community read .
coming in April, 2011 .
The One Book Community Project is not new to Marshall, but takes its beginnings in the vision of Dr. Evelyn Bonner. In 2007, the former librarian of Thomas Cole Library of Wiley College, completed the difficult and challenging application for a grant co-funded by Wiley College to partner with Marshall Public Library, Waskom Public Library, Marshall ISD, and local community leaders interested in literacy.
Funding for the first community reading initiative came from The Big Read and Wiley College.
By the third year, with Alma Ravenell taking the lead, with The Big Read grantee obligations and paperwork, the community of readers decided to move to an independent One Read for Marshall and Harrison County. After legal, artistic and other permissions were acquired the committee agreed on "Harrison County and A Book" with logo art provided by Alma Ravenell.
This year, celebrating the 5th year of community reading, the committee voted on the book, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers. WE hope you join us in celebrating READING!
